Shell Completes First LNG Shipment from Prelude Facility

Shell has made its first shipment of liquified natural gas from the Prelude floating liquified natural gas (FLNG) facility in offshore Western Australia.

Shell, which runs the FLNG operation alongside its joint venture partners INPEX, KOGAS and OPIC, announced the shipment will be delivered by the vessel Valencia Knutsen to customers in Asia.

The Prelude facility, located 475 kilometres north east of Broome, will produce 3.6 million tonnes per annum of LNG, 1.3 million tonnes per annum of condensate and 400,000 tonnes per annum of liquified petroleum gas.

“Today’s first shipment of LNG departed from Prelude FLNG, safely. Everyone involved should be very proud of the work taken to reach this important milestone,” integrated gas and new energies director at Shell, Maarten Wetselaar said

“Prelude forms an integral part of our global portfolio and plays an important role in meeting the growing demand for more and cleaner energy for our customers around the world.”

Chairman of Shell Australia, Zoe Yujnovich said the Prelude facility would provide the opportunity for increased cooperation with WA businesses and communities.

“Prelude FLNG combines human endeavour and ingenuity from across the globe and here in Australia. We are proud to work with our local communities, suppliers and partners to ensure its safe, reliable operations into the future,” she said.
